June highlights ...

We'd love to see more entries for our June challenge  - I hope you might find some creative time in the next couple of days to join in with us. The challenge is EITHER doing a vintage style page OR featuring children on your layout and since most of us scrap our kids this really could not be simpler.

Here are just a couple of layouts that have caught our eye this month ...

Leanne
who has very beautifully combined both a child and vintage style - well done you!

Jasmine
who has delightfully used a photo of her boys flying a kite

Hope to see your entry too!

Welcome to our June guest ...

Please welcome our lovely guest designer this month, Rachel Dutko with her beautiful layout inspired by our artwork for June.

I was pushed out of my comfort zone with the requirements being a vintage style layout. I took inspiration from the colours, the 'outdoors' theme and the lineal composition of 'The Kite'.

Hi! My name is Rachel Dutko and I live in Adelaide with my husband and our 2 young boys, who are the inspiration for the majority of my scrapbook pages. I am currently on the Design Teams for Colour Blast Australia, D-lish Scraps, Uniquely Creative Kit Club, as well as 'Scrap The Boys' and 'Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia' challenge blogs. I really like using mixed media, texture, and learning new techniques. I think my style is fun, bright, and sometimes messy, 'boy' pages.

Remember ....

You still have plenty of time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  All details are on the blog sidebar. We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

Our June mid month reveal ...

Welcome to our mid month reveal.

This month we feature this delightful artwork by Ethel Spowers called The Kite.

CRITERIA - VINTAGE style OR featuring CHILDREN
(or for an extra challenge combine both)

And some lovely inspiration from our second team ...

KAT
Huge congratulations to Kat from all of the team on the birth of twins ...
I find vintage style challenging so I made a layout about my children. I don't have much time to scrap with newborn twins so I used a pre-made page kit which features geometric shapes (inspired by the kite) and some of the colours from the painting.

TONE
I decided to feature children (well one child) outdoors playing.

ANGELIKA
I was inspired by the sepia tones in the painting to do my photos in sepia. The vintage challenge inspired me to do a page about a flapper girl performance. I also fussy cut a million vintage roses.

KAREN
The inspiration I have taken from this painting is the sense of oldy worldy.

KRIPA

I started with vintage & children and ended up making shabby chic instead  the painting of the children looking at the kite inspired me to pick this photo of my son.

ANNA
I have made a try to combine both but I'm not sure how I succeeded  - the wooden background has that vintage feel and I am featuring children or at least one child. I have used some of the colors from the painting too.

JANE
I've combined both taking the colours from the painting as my inspiration. I've used a sweet photo of a family member.

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see your own interpretation. You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

May winners / June tutorial ...

I will be announcing our May winners shortly but first I would like to introduce you to our Tips, Tricks and Techniques for June brought to you by team member, Tracey Henly.

Timeless Layout by Tracey Henly

Working with acetate can be troublesome when you don’t wish your adhesive to be visible. This new Heidi Swapp range called Magnolia Jane has an awesome coordinating acetate sheet. You could of cause just use it as a full 12 x 12 overlay but I decided to fussy cut it up and layer it with the matching pattern paper.

Now remember Acetate comes with a plastic coating that you just peel off before attaching to your layout.

After you have cut out all your elements decide where your photo is to sit on your layout and draw a pencil line around it. This will give you a guild as to where you want your flowers to go.

Your first layer goes on flat just use your double sided tape for the paper flowers and glossy accents for the acetate.

You can cut clusters up and make them smaller to make your design work.

Mat your photo if you wish and using magic mount double sided foam raise your photo up off the background. I actually used two layers so I could poke some of the second layer of flowers under the photo.

So add your second layer of flowers by using one layer of foam tape.

Cut your doily in half and position on either side of your photo.

Now I use a product called scrap dots, which is like silicone gel. It allows me to get more height on certain elements if I wish it.

So the final layer of acetate flowers which just go over the edges of the photo I have attached with the scrap dots.

I added a Heidi acetate title …. Timeless.

Also with the left over clear acetate from the 12 x 12 sheet, I stamp butterflies on it with black staz on.

Then turn it over and coloured the back with alcohol Inks, let dry then cut out and attach to your layout.

Have fun playing with acetate.

Thanks for looking

Tracey

It's June ...

Welcome to June, and winter is coming (gosh I've always wanted to say that lol) but all too soon we will be huddled under blankets, sipping hot chocolate and watching our favourite TV shows - we'll my family will be at least!

This month our inspiration comes to you from Ethel Spowers with The Kite.  Our Criteria this month is a little different - we invite you to do a Vintage style layout OR one that features children (and for the extra challenge in this challenge why not combine them both).

CRITERIA - VINTAGE style OR featuring CHILDREN
(or for an extra challenge combine both)

A little about Ethel Spowers ...

Ethel Louise Spowers was an Australian artist associated with the Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Born on 11 July 1890, in Melbourne, daughter of a New Zealander father and a London-born mother. Her father, William Spowers, owned a newspaper. Spowers trained as an artist in Melbourne, with some study in Paris as well. Spowers had her first solo exhibit in Melbourne at age 30, showing fairy-tale illustrations. In 1928–29, she studied linocut printmaking at the Grosvenor School. She was one of several Australian women artists at the Grosvenor School, including Dorrit Black and Eveline Syme.  She mounted an exhibition of Australian linocuts in Melbourne in 1930. In 1932, she became a founder of the Contemporary Art Group, promoting modern art in Australia.
Spowers died on 5 May 1947, after a long illness from cancer, in Melbourne, age 56. The Art Gallery of NSW holds several of her works, some from an early period of realistic illustrations, others showing the marked influence of her time at the Grosvenor School.

This year we are putting the ART back into ARTastic and our main prize each month will reflect that - this month featuring amazing products from Kaisercraft.

And as always a lovely prize pack for our random draw winner ...

And now some beautiful inspiration from the first of our team ...

JUDY
I was inspired by the vintage feel of the painting and the children depicted and scrapped an 8 x 10 layout of my brother taken in the early 50's.

EVELYN
For this challenge I decided to alter a little stand, I found in a dollar store. I painted it, using some green like in the artwork and added a vintage photo of a little girl.

MARIA
In the photo, my brothers in childhood! It's so cute - now they are very grown-up.  My inspiration is the colors in the picture.

ELAINE
I loved the neutral colours in this painting and picked it up for my layout, with a few bits of colour. And I just had to add a kite.

HELENE

TANYA
Of course to create a vintage feel I thought it best to use a photo of my mum and aunty as children. I loved the green and cream tones in the painting too.

TRACEY
Vintage child is my mother as a flower girl. Used the new Heidi Swapp Magnolia Jane papers.
