Amanda's Kandinsky Submission....

Here is Amanda's take on the Kandinsky inspiration - High End Energy

Amanda - Here is my take on Septembers entry at Artastic, I took inpiration from the colours in the pic and the overall design, and used the title 'High-End Energy' cos thats what I got from the pic and also that is Connor's energy levels too lol, loved this challenge thanks Shazza, hope you like it.

Love your take Amanda, you've done a fantastic job of the Kandinsky inspiration, using the brown tones and it gives a bit of a grungy feel! Terrific! cheers Shazza

Guest Design Team Member for the month is....

Amanda Taylor

Here is a little bit of information about Amanda and some of her layouts.

Hi, I'm a 36 yr old SAHM of 6 gorgeous boys and I just live and breathe scrapbooking and I'm esp getting addicted to challenges of all sorts all over the place, I'm so honoured to be Guest Design Team Member for September and hope I live up to expectations of a design team member...................you can see some of my work on my newly created blog http://amandasscrappyjoint.blogspot.com

Here are some of my LOs, the first one 'Makes Me Wonder' (which I did about a year ago) is a favourite purely because of the artistic flair of it, and I think its the most artistic LO I've ever done.

Makes Me Wonder

To See You Come of Age

Divine Darling

I've got an Angel

Are We There Yet?

I have know Amanda for about 1o months, we met on a challenge blog site, that has about 15 challenges a month........ and yep!! Amanda does them all!!
I have never known such a keen and dedicated scrapbooking lady. I'm sure Amanda does over 20 pages a month and by the end of the month she is bored and asks other members for some challenges and inspiration to keep her going.....

Her favourite scrapbooking subject would have to be her beautiful little boy Connor, and he's such a lttle cutie!! Thanks Amanda for agreeing to be our first ever Guest DT member on Artastic, your layouts are very inspiring!

.......... Wait til you see her submission for the month.... AWESOME!!

Cheers
Shazza

Shazza's submission....

Shazza Bishop - It's What Boys Do

I found Kandinsky's art piece quite challenging and it wasn't until I found the pic of my son Adam on a school camp (Mill Valley Ranch) that I decided to go with a grungy feel, incorporating the geometric shapes with in my layout....I added the cut out horse just for fun... hope you like it :)

Next for inspiration is Tash Allen's submission

Tash Allen - Toot

and a close up below of the detail.

Tash said.....I was inspired by the colours in the Kandinsky painting (although mine has turned out a bit brighter than the painting) and also by the general layout which I drew a rough version of and used as a sketch for my layout. A vague resemblence I think, lol. Also added in some thick black doodling to connect it back to the painting.

Good on you Tash, its a gorgeous layout, love the black train and carriages and your thick black doodles used to give the Kandinsky feel. Cheers Shazza

Let's Look at Lisa's Submission

Lisa Hanrahan - Laugh

This is what Lisa had to say: "I have always loved Kandinsky's work and studied his art in high school. I love the clean lines, bright colours and use of white space, which I have
tried to refelect in my layout. I also included geometric patterned paper,
black scallops and a circle embellishment which also came through in
this artwork."

I hope this layout is okay... I usually embellish more, and although this is
my style, it didn't match the artwork to over embellish with flowers.
I thought clean and simple would be better!

A lovely neat layout Lisa, loved the funky pp you have used and how cute is Michala :)
You 've done a great job using the Kandinsky inspiration, Cheers Shazza

Next up is Michelle's submission.......

Michelle Winston - UP

This is what Michelle had to say: Anyway, I finally drew inspiration from the colours... The red, green and yellow with black outlines stood out to me.
I have also included some of the geometric shapes, through the paper folding.
Finally, as the piece is an abstract, I just tried a few different things all on the same page in a really random way...

Michelle, a great abstract layout, love your interpretation, a great idea with the paper folding, and love your doodled shapes. Cheers Shazza

Next DT members submission is Renae Degura

Renae Deguara - Real Life

Renaes thoughts on her piece -how inspiring are the shapes and modern look of Kandinsky. of course i had to start with the shapes as an inspiration....and it didnt take long for my own "ARTWORK" to evolve. cant wait to see how everyone interprets this one.

Renae this is a fantastic take on the challenge, you have real brought across the Kandinsky feel, I'm very impressed and I am sure your other DT members will feel the same. Keep up the great work - From shazza

Lets take a look at Terri Browns submission for September!

Terri Brown - Lets Ride

Here is my submission for the Kandinsky layout. I struggled with this one for a while until I decided to use the colours & the geometrical shapes in it. THe photo is of Eric when we were together on vacation -- just about to go for a long ride on the Harley.

Terri you have done a great job using the geometric shapes, and a great photo of Eric on his Harley.... love the American Flag on his leather jacket! from Shazza

Wassily Kandinsky - On White II

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky: (4th December 1866 – 13 December 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting the first modern abstract works.

Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa. He enrolled at the University of Moscow and chose to study law and economics. Quite successful in his profession—he was offered a professorship (chair of Roman Law) at the University of Dorpat—he started painting studies (life-drawing, sketching and anatomy) at the age of 30.

In 1896 he settled in Munich and studied first in the private school of Anton Azbe and then at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. He went back to Moscow in 1914 after World War 1 started. He was unsympathetic to the official theories on art in Moscow and returned to Germany in 1921. There he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in 1933. He then moved to France where he lived the rest of his life, and became a French citizen in 1939. He died at Neuilly-sur-seine in 1944.

The inspiration for your layouts will come from this sample of his abstract work
called 'On White II'

September inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky - On white II

The September Artist is Wassily Kandinsky and the inspiration for your layouts will come from this sample of his abstract work called 'On White ll"

You have a whole month to complete just one layout,
so get to it,
you have to be in it to win it!!!

We have another entry for the month, this one is from.......

Lisa Lofthouse - Working the Alabaster.

This is my take.... I used some of the colours and the idea of squares.... This was a really tough one ladies and really had me thinking out of the box!

Lisa this has really turned out gorgeous, I love the aqua blue and yellow together, it really makes the photos stand out - well done!!
Cheers Shazza

......and this is number ten, from.....

Peggy Schenkels - Take ME as I am !

Peggy said: I love the idea of using art as inspiration.

Peggy, I love your page, the background masking effect looks fab. The journal tag says: I'm a little bit of everything. The words say it all - saint, sinner, bitch, mother, lover and child.
The whole layout really stand out. Thanks for your entry :) Cheers Shazza.

Time is ticking away................... So, if you are planning on entering this month ..... midnight Saturday night the 29th is the deadline!

Our ninth entry for the month, from.....

Tracey Washington-Lacy - Plucking out a Tune

This is what Tracey had to say: I liked the idea of repetition with a rainbow of colours. My daughters t-shirt has a rainbow and music on it. I figured that colouring the ukulele in a rainbow of colours would all tie in nicely with the Andy Warhol inspiration.

Tracey, I love how you have highlighted the ukelele with splashes of color on each of the pics.
Well done!!
The journaling says 'Plucking out a tune in Fiji in 2009. Just Chillin!!!' Thanks for your entry :)

Cheers
Shazza

Time is ticking away................... So, if you are planning on entering this month ..... midnight Saturday night the 29th is the deadline!

We have another layout to share, a Heath Ledger tribute from ......

Tanya Soutar - Gone too Soon

This is what Tanya had to say.......

what inspired me was some gorgeous photos that I had seen that were from vanity fair, so it got me thinking about andy warhol-ing him, I struggled with journalling because his death had such an impact on me, so I just used the lyrics from eskimo joe's song Foreign Land which was written about Heath.

lyrics:

"This is what it feels to love
then l can feel that
This is what it feels to love
then l can feel that

Even when you're all alone
When it's not your home
I smell the blood of an Australian
Try to understand this if you can
if you can"

Thanks for your entry Tanya, you really have put a lot of thought into this layout. It's hard to journal about someone that you have been so passionate about! Good idea to use the song lyrics from 'Foreign Land. You've done a great job.
Cheers Shazza

WOW! Another fantastic layout to share, this time from.....

Brenda Wyllie - Faces

I was inspired by all the colours of Andy Warhol’s art work. As soon as I saw this challenge I knew exactly which photos I wanted to use. What I didn’t know was how I was going to set them out until I cut them out individually and then they just fell into place. by Brenda Wyllie

Ooh wow Brenda! I love all of this, great idea using the clock face to space out the pics, I even love the little wavy clock arm. You must be very pleased with how this turned out, cheers Shazza

Another Fantastic Layout to Share with you all.....

From:

Joanne Powell - Moments are Memories Forever.

This is what Joanne had to say......................I LOVE the colours of Andy Warhol's art. I guess what inspired me is obvious. My gorgeous man also inspired me after he pointed out how many shots there were of us together :)
Thank you Shazza I love this challenge it was fun to do something a little different!

Joanne this looks fabulous, great effort, some really fantastic pics of the two of you together. I also love the sentiment in the centre of your layout! cheers Shazza

Our Month's Artist "ANDY WARHOL'

Every time I think of ANDY WARHOL, I always think of the Campbells Soup Can and the duplicated colored photos of Marilyn Munroe. But there is a lot more to this ARTist....... here's a little more about him.

Andrew Warhola, August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987), more commonly known as Andy Warhol, was an American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avante-garde filmmaker, record producer, author, and public figure known for his membership in wildly diverse social circles that included bohemian street people, distinguished intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy aristocrats.

Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and features and documentary films. He coined the expression "15 minutes of fame".

Andy Warhol Commercial Art is our inspiration for the month of August, please send your entries to shazzaalleyes@hotmail.com.

So.... if you want your '15 mins of Fame' send your entry in.......

Another DT contribution to hang in the gallery, this time from....

Tash Allen - Features

This is what Tash had to say.......What inspired me most about the Warhol painting was the bright colours with the hint of black, and the grid formation, which I replicated with paint and soft brush strokes around the photo. I also could not go past this photo of my son Isaac at 10 months old... I had this printed for a while and never quite knew what to do with it. It was one of those photos that captured his features so well but was totally over-exposed. I decided to play around with it a bit in Photoshop rather than delete it and see what results I could get.... and this was it! Totally Andy Warhol! I also added a bit of black pen doodling around the butterfly in the felt as a subtle link back to the painting. Thanks for looking :)

and a few close ups of the detail........

and

I just love it, you have put a lot of work into this, and its turned out fabulous. The other DT members will love it too!! Cheers Shazza

We have another layout today, this time from....

Josie - My Wedding

This is Josies take on the challenge, and her first time as an entrant on ARTastic, here's what she had to say.......

My name is Josie.

This is my scrap page of my wedding .

I have been scrapping for 3 years & I love it.

I am a carer for my husband so I do it when he sleeps, which is a lot of the time.

I use a wide range of things from, self made stickers to the brought stuff, it all goes together no matter what I use.
I'm proud of my work I hope you like it.

Thanks for your entry, your wedding page is great! I love your work. Everyone is different, my pages tend to be very basic compared to a lot of other ladies. Well being a carer is a big job in itself, its a wonder your not too tired to scrap. Well, hopefully you can win more embellies for your pages, so Good Luck!! From Shazza

August Inspiration from Andy Warhol
