" Hi I am Jodi, Owner/Designer at Corbett Creations Wood Veneers.  My laser cutting business is currently based in Canberra and has been something I have been working on for a little while now.  It came about because I would be constantly frustrated that I couldn't find the perfect title or embellishment to finish off layouts, projects or gifts.  I would then spend far too long trying to create the perfect embellishment and would sometimes rope my husband in to help me with all this cool tools in the man shed!  He has a love for wood also and together we purchased our laser.  I love being able to design and cut the perfect piece for someone to finish telling their story - the perfect title, the hard to find themed embellishment, a custom piece for the home or a meaningful gift, really makes me feel so happy because I know that their search is over and they have the perfect piece that they desired.  I love to create in wood, chipboard, cardstock, paper and acrylic with so many different mediums I can create so many embellishments and titles - the possibilities are endless.

Good luck with your entries in the  challenge, I look forward to seeing everyone's entries"

We'd love top see your work please come and join in with us.

Hello March ...

Our March inspiration comes to you from Luka Va with - Lamos nelaime.

CRITERIA - Animals in any way you like

A little about Luka Va

I’ve been drawing since childhood. You know, almost every child likes to draw but one day they just stop. Probably like many illustrators, I just didn’t lose it. Later I studied design and thought that I can make logos or chairs and other things. A few members of my family were architects and designers. I thought – that’s what grown up people do. But soon I had to realize that illustrating is a much bigger joy. Especially drawing quirky animals. When I moved to Australia, I found that it’s pretty popular and ‘normal’ profession, not just a hobby.  I keep searching for my style and use different techniques but even when I try to make to something serious, it comes out still a little bit funny and naive. I don’t have the word for my style, but a lot of people call it quirky.

And now some inspiration from our team ...

Kat Gray - Australia
I thought this artwork was a lot of fun so I made a set of birthday cards incorporating lots of cute animals and bright colours.

Elaine Schoof - Australia
I've scrapped a photo of our beautiful Chocolate Labrador, Milo. The painting inspired me to use layers behind my photo.

Judy Willey - Australia
I have chosen the beige, browns and blue for my layout of the family pet.

Karen McLaughlin - Australia
This is my daughter's puppy. How cute is he?

Tanya Heritage - Australia

Tone Jensen - Norway
This is my little monkey.....the title is: apekatt = monkey. I was inspired by the funny and slightly crazy picture. I think the monkeys are fun and they climb everywhere, like my son

Jane Howden - Australia
Inspired by the kraft background and colours used in the artwork.

Our main prize winner this year will be selected by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience or your country of residence. If there are more than 8 entries in the month a second prize (donated each month by one of our team) will be drawn.

This month we have a wonderful sponsor supplying our main prize.

Welcome February ...

Our February inspiration is something a little different - this lovely ceramic piece by Jill Foster called Fringe Faces

CRITERIA -  GIRLS only

A little about Jill Foster ...

I was a beach kid of the 60s and my drawing has been influenced by the bright lively colours and “fun” lifestyle. Thrown functional clay pieces become my canvas, clay and brush my tools of trade. From a trip to France I observed the “cool style” of the French women and developed the “funky lady” decorated ware. Much overseas travel and a lasting interest in Japanese culture and brush painting filter into my very Australian themes. I design, make, photograph and teach in today’s Arts Industry.

Currently I sell from my “Burra North Studio”, “Artworx” in Goolwa, “Urban Cow Studio” in Adelaide, “Venturas Vision” Auburn, and “Studio Potters”, Klemzig. Recent commissions for “Southern Ocean Lodge” Kangaroo island, Burra Hotel and Pike’s Winery demand unique designs, and one-off pieces for exhibition work throughout each year are the challenges I most enjoy. I am stimulated by the creative challenge and hope people enjoy using my pots.

And now some inspiration from our team ...

Tanya Heritage - Australia
I took inspiration from the girls, they looked like they are having a great time hanging out with each other. This photo is from a girls weekend away where we have lots of fun and laughs.

Tone Jensen - Norway
I scrap chronologically and I have no photos with girls at this time. So this time I choose to make an Art Journal page. I was inspired by the colors and the three flowers represent the three ladies.

Kat Gray - Australia
I was inspired by the girls and the celebratory theme to scrap some photos from my birthday a few years ago. I added a circle garland to match the beads that the girls are wearing. I also took inspiration from the name of the artwork and included lots of fringe tape, in blue to match the background.

Elaine Schoof - Australia
A photo of my youngest when she was smaller. I went with the bright colours and 'fun' side of the inspiration.

Judy Willey - Australia
I was inspired by the blue speckled background of the plate for my background and the many colours of the women's clothing for the embellishments. The title happy reflects the mood of the artwork and my granddaughters, together for the holidays.

Karen McLaughlin - Australia
My inspiration has come from the girls having fun. This is my daughter and niece exploring London together.

Jane Howden - Australia
I found my inspiration in the blue, mint and yellow colours used on the ceramic plate.

Our main prize winner this year will be selected by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience or your country of residence. If there are more than 8 entries in the month a second prize (donated each month by one of our team) will be drawn.
