This month our inspiration comes to you from Rita Angus (New Zealand) with "Cass".

A little about Rita Angus ...

As a pioneer of modern painting in New Zealand, Henrietta Catherine Angus, better known as Rita Angus, evolved a distinctive and highly personal art. Angus – an austere, disciplined and often exacting woman – was sustained by her belief in her vocation. From the 1960s she was recognised as one of the leading figures of New Zealand art in the 20th century.

She was born in Hastings in 1908 and spent her childhood between Napier and Palmerston North. In 1927 she began a diploma in fine arts at Canterbury College School of Art, where she received a sound traditional training in life drawing, still life and landscape painting. Having her painting "Cass" exhibited in the National Centennial Exhibition of New Zealand Art in 1940 signalled the beginning of critical recognition for her work which grew steadily through the 1950's until her death in 1970.  The National Art Gallery’s major exhibition of her work in 1982–83 confirmed Rita Angus’s status as one of the outstanding artists of her generation.

Annemarie Caister - (New Zealand)

I used Kaisercraft Rosabella papers, added paint splatters to the background, painted the chipboard, painted some of the flowers to match the colour tones and painted through a stencil.

Karen McLaughlin - (Australia)

Using paint for the background and also for the chipboard.

Karen Brierley - (Australia)

I created my own background with acrylic paint. I dry-brushed three different colours with a large brush.

Tanya Heritage - (Australia)

I love using paint on layouts. On this layout I watered down paint and dripped some with a paint brush and also blow some off the brush with a straw. My chipboard title is also painted.

Dale Tiernan -  (Australia)

 I've used yellow and white paint with a circle stencil. I took inspiration from the colours in the painting.

Sharon Bishop - (Australia)

Neon paint on background, added quote about life and the the little brown house represents the cafe!

Jane Howden - (Australia)

I used splatters of yellow paint across my page and picked up the earthy yellow/green tones of the landscape in the painting.

Our main prize winner this year will be selected by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience or your country of residence. If there are more than 8 entries in the month a second prize (donated each month by one of our team) will be drawn.
