Our JULY inspiration ...

Go away Winter - I want to see uplifting colours that shine on your entry

A little about Carla Blackman

Carla Blackman, originally from Warwick in England, has travelled the world extensively, but is now a permanent resident of Far North Queensland, where she has made her home.
Based on the Cairns Northern Beaches, she has been greatly influenced by the vibrant colours of tropical reef fish, which she captures brilliantly on her silk originals.
Carla enjoys painting on silk as a medium since it is well suited to creative expression with bright colours. The vibrancy of the finished artwork is an appropriate reflection of her tropical environment.
Carla has work in private and corporate collections throughout the world. Her beautiful silk originals make an outstanding statement and add a touch of the tropics to any room.

Our June inspiration ...

will come to you by Dragonfly Upstairs by Pro Hart.

Additional criteria -  Insects
(either as your theme or as embellishments/papers on your page – or both!)

A little about Pro Hart

Kevin "Pro" Hart was born in Broken Hill, NSW, Australia in 1928. He grew up on the family sheep station "Larloona" situated near Broken Hill, and he was educated by correspondence with this brother Bob, and their Mother as tutor.

In his early twenties Pro moved to Broken Hill and worked underground as a miner. In 1960 he married Raylee June Tonkin and they had five children, three boys and two girls.

From age seven, Pro loved to sketch and paint. He began taking his gift seriously in his early twenties when he first used painting as a creative outlet to keep him sane from underground life as a miner. To develop his gift, Pro attended a few local art classes but was mainly self-taught. He was discovered in 1962 by a gallery director in Adelaide. From there his success as an artist began to flourish. Nicknamed Pro - a symbol of his remarkable talent - his first exhibition was a sellout.

Mainly working in oils and acrylics, Pro would use any tool or method to achieve the desired outcome for his work. He drew upon techniques of layering, chiaroscuro, glazing, scumbling, scratching and Alla prima.   His work has been exhibited all over the world, in Australia, London, Dusseldorf, Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Israel, Cairo and Manila, in the finest of galleries and venues, with many of his exhibitions being sell-outs. His paintings are represented in collections owned by the likes of Harold Mertz, Lyndon Johnson, Prince Phillip, Qantas Airways, Margaret Carnegie, the Canberra War Memorial, the University of NSW and Adelaide, the Bonython Collection, the Warsaw National Collection of Poland and Cathay Pacific Airways.

Featured Creative Team member ...

Amanda Taylor is our featured Creative Team member this month.

Hi, I'm Amanda.  I'm a SAHM to seven gorgeous (sometimes lol) boys and I live in sunny (most of the time!) Brisbane.

I've been scrapping since December 2004 but seriously got into this wonderful craft around 2008.  I scrap most days and if I'm not then I'm at least thinking about it!!  Currently I have stolen a nice little corner of the babies room (actually about half the room may be more accurate) and scrap when he naps.

You can check out what I am up to on my blog  http://amandasscrappyjoint.blogspot.com/

Thanks,
Amanda

The Creative Team award for this month goes to Amanda with her vibrant layout For the love of the game.  Thanks Amanda, a little something will be winging it's way to you shortly.

A bit about Julie Podstolski.

Julie is a Painter/illustrator based in South Fremantle, Western Australia.

She is New Zealand-born and moved to Australia in 1982. After working for over 20 years with oil paints she switched to using coloured pencils in 2001 with the aim to achieve luminosity and a sense of drama to her works. She is described as a realistic artist and her works reflect interesting aspects of everyday live, including urban  landscapes and people.  A lot of her work features aspects of life in Japan where she travels frequently.  This piece Cafe on the Left Bank was inspired by time spent in Paris in December 2010.

Debi's Bio ...

Hi everyone,

I am a happy paper crafter & card maker, & for the past 9 years have looked at the world in a different way – a scrapbooking way. I am so fortunate that I literally stumbled into scrapbooking, a 'revelation' as I passed a scrapbooking shop in Brisbane & that is now my personal passion, with my family being always put to paper. I never ever believed I was creative, & very happy that I found it! I encourage friends to try their hand, & on most occasions they have returned with a smile, & this insane desire to buy more paper! I term my style as 'rumbled'- rarely squared lines, love layering, I like to add extras like labels & tickets & laces, & put lots of love & thought into each piece. Possibly shabby chic or grungy...maybe a bit of everything!
I have been married to Pete for 35 years, have 2 grown up children with families, & quite a few grandchildren! I work 2 jobs, plus we also run our own company 'after normal work hours' - so I am always busy & there is never a dull moment! My family is very supportive of my hobby, well it really is a way of life, as it encompasses the whole of me. I have made delightful friendships through my craft, some friends far away & a bunch of gals closer to home - & what fun we have together with our paper & adhesives!
I also really enjoy designing sketches for challenges or personal use, & quite often sit & design a number of them using my digital scrapbooking program.
I really enjoy seeing what the scrapbooking fraternity comes up with each month on ARTastic, & love to see everyone’s different interpretations too of the theme.
My blog is http://debisjoy.blogspot.com/

Cheers,

Debi Clark
